Environmental, social and governance

We believe long-term value is built responsibly. That means making deliberate choices about how we operate, how we treat people and how we govern the business.

Our approach to ESG is practical and focused. We prioritise action over statements, accountability over ambition and progress that can be measured over activity that can be promoted.

Our environmental commitment

We take responsibility for the environmental impact of how we operate.

Our focus is on reducing emissions at source through energy efficiency, lower-carbon travel choices and digital-first ways of working. Reduction comes first, not offsetting.

We have set clear targets aligned with national net zero goals, including a significant reduction in operational emissions by 2035 and a long-term ambition to reach net zero across all scopes by 2050. These targets guide investment and operational decisions across the Group.

Environmental responsibility is embedded into day-to-day operations, from office refurbishments and waste reduction to sustainable procurement. We also work with key suppliers to encourage responsible practices, recognising that meaningful progress extends beyond our own footprint. You can read more about it in our Carbon Reduction Plan.

“Net zero is not a slogan for us. It is a commitment to act with discipline and intent, even when the decisions are not the easiest ones to make.”

Our people and social impact

Business is personal. The impact we have on our people and communities matters just as much as our commercial success.

Our people are central to how we perform, grow and create long-term value. We expect high standards, and we take responsibility for creating an environment where individuals can meet them.

We invest in learning and leadership at every stage of a career, through structured development pathways, management and leadership programmes, and support for professional qualifications.

Performance is supported by clear frameworks that encourage regular feedback, shared expectations and meaningful development conversations. This creates consistency while allowing individuals to progress in different ways.

Wellbeing is treated as a performance issue, not a benefit. Our approach supports mental health, flexible ways of working and access to practical support when it is needed, recognising that sustainable performance depends on people being able to operate at their best over time.

Inclusion is a responsibility, not an initiative. Through IDEA Allies, a cross-business group, we focus on embedding inclusive behaviours into everyday decision-making. This work supports leaders and teams in building environments where people feel respected, supported and able to succeed.

Together, these priorities support both individual growth and long-term business performance.

Community and social value

We support the communities around us through fundraising, volunteering and targeted community funding, focusing on causes chosen by our people and long-term partnerships with grassroots organisations.

This activity is grounded in action rather than promotion and reviewed regularly to ensure it remains relevant and meaningful.

“We focus on building a workplace where people can grow with confidence, feel supported and know their contribution matters.”

Louise Roberts, Chief People Officer

Governance and accountability

Strong governance underpins everything we do.

Our ESG activity is overseen at Group level, with clear roles and accountability across leadership, operational teams and dedicated committees. Progress is monitored, reviewed and reported regularly.

We are committed to:

  • Acting ethically and transparently

  • Meeting regulatory requirements and recognised standards

  • Managing risk responsibly

  • Reviewing and strengthening our approach as expectations evolve
